Under §.3.b. it is stated that a person can be committed to a mental institution against his will when that person is considered to constitute a danger to his own or other peoples lives and well-being. The current patients include Yme on guitar, keys & vocal, Stÿn on flute, Ingar on bass and Mark on drums. In their delusions they claim to draw inspiration ranging from classical composer Claude Debussy to doom metal band My Dying Bride. The records can, however, confirm that although these musicians have a wide range of experience with metal, rock, jazz, latin and classical music expressions, their combined efforts belong more in the genre of hard rock with musical elements stolen from progressive and industrial metal.
The first sign of distress from Section3B was produced in 1997. What was initially a demo of three tracks titled "Religion", "Race" and "Revolution" was recorded on a 4-track tape recorder, featuring Yme on guitar, bass, keys & programming together with Kjetil on vocal. Due to its' excellent sound and production qualities, the master DAT was, however, eventually dug out of the archives, re-mastered and released by Cirrus Clouds Records in 2007. The mini-EP "Religion, Race & Revolution" is distributed as a free download through section3b.net. The second tune was later re-recorded and released under a new title - "Rise Shine!"
Section3B was first institutionalized as a band in Oslo, Norway in 1998. At that time the patients included Ingar on bass, Yme on guitar & vocal and Adreas on organ. After a year of rehearsals, with several different drummers, the band proceeded to record an early demo of the songs "Mechanical Emotions", "Obscene Disposition" and "Tam Lin". Parts of this recording later formed the basis when the tunes were re-recorded for Section3B's debut album. After these initial outbursts Section3B went into hibernation for several years, as Ingar and Yme underwent a variety of treatments at separate and more secure facilities, in Hawaii and New Zealand.
Section3B was reborn as a studio project in Auckland, New Zealand in 2005. Together with drummer Mark and flute player Stÿn the foundations for what would later become the album "Mechanical Emotions" were recorded. In response to the news that Yme again would be moved back to Norway, unfinished versions of the tracks "Possibly Mad" and "Rise Shine!" were released on a single titled "With Respect to §3B". This record were, however, later retrieved by Cirrus Clouds Records and blocked from distribution on the web. The recording of the ten tracks that eventually made it onto Section3B's first full length album was finished by Ingar and Yme in Oslo, Norway in 2007. At that time Kjetil also made a rare visit to add some additional guitar tracks.
"Mechanical Emotions" was eventually released by Cirrus Clouds Records in January 2008. Both the band and the label pledged to use all of the income generated from the album towards the production of it's sequel. The immediate future of the project is, however, unclear. Yme was caught breaking all standards of good conduct while on leave from the institution. As video evidence of the episode surfaced on youtube, he was placed under close supervision indefinitely. Ingar was severely shocked by the incident and immediately put on heavy medication. Mark was last found in New Zealand teaching kicking techniques to children, and Stÿn has reportedly been moved to China for experimental treatments.
